Production Blog: Finishing Touches

Hello blog we’re back today. Today’s blog will just be about how we are finishing up our film. The film is nearly done and it is looking great. We are working so hard to make sure it looks great. Some of the editing cane out blurry so this has to be fixed. We couldn’t figure out why at first but then we discovered that the editing software was trying to automatically adjust the clips leading to this. This mostly happed to darker scenes. To fix this I turned off the setting and manually adjusted the lighting. This seemed to have removed the blurry effect. Another issue we found was the the sound was very quiet. Raising the volume led to all the other scenes being super loud while the non diegetic sound was just barely audible. To fix this issue we just lowered the audios to match but it was weird the issue occurred in the first place. These were the majority of issues we found. They were quick fixes but they really could have affected our project. Thank You or reading and that’s al...

Production Blog: Editing

Image
Hello blog it feels like it’s been a while but it’s only been a day. Filming went smoothly and we completed some of our makeup scenes. Everything looks good. Today is the editing day. First we have to transition the videos to an editing software. The software we will be using is adobe. My mom uses this for work and so I will too. It is usually a costly program but since it is already paid for there is no reason not to utilize it to the fullest. We have began to put the clips into order and cutting unnecessary pieces. We also had to plug in our title and other text. This took us quite a bit and while we tried to split up our workload it was still difficult. Based off of our past project we knew that during filming we must capture as much on camera as possible. This is because without good clips to work with editing would be much harder. This led to our editing requiring less then last time even though it is a bigger film. The film is looking good but some of the clips remain a litt...

Production Blog: Makeup Day

Today was a rush hour as preparations for video editing began. The first speed bump we encountered was that we had forgotten some very important clips before diving into video editing. At first, we thought we could do without them but decided that it was impossible to complete the whole production without them. The first hurdle was filling our free time slots. I had to distribute mine between SAT study, whereas Nat had job responsibilities to deal with. It took some time, but we got through it eventually. After somehow managing to clear our after-school schedules, we were all set to shoot the last batch of scenes at my place. Thanks to Benjamin who said he would drive us down, it was easier. These weren't major production-value moments, but they were important in showing the wreck. We finished shooting late in the afternoon and had to clean up afterward. Certainly a lot of work was called for in making my place presentable for the next day as well. When all the equipment had final...

Production Blog: More Filming!!

Image
Hi there, the blog! Today was yet another productive shooting day and I cannot wait to see what we create out of it all. Starting yesterday with some scenes right before the crash, and I think we nailed the Office scene at my house! It gave me such great feelings to bring that to life! Oh yes, we also got to do some driving scenes, which we needed since that would give us shots of both cars. Expectations were to finish up shooting of the rest of the movie! The sooner the shooting is over, the more editing time we would have. Before today, we considered a few broader scenes, yet the crash was the enormous scene that made me a little bit anxious to achieve it realistically for the office worker and the partyer roles! We had decided to pull it off by mixing practical effects and editing wizardry. First, we did shots of background video, where we could get the cars to overlay later. Then, we shot both cars driving into that exact empty space separately. This way, we'll be able to comb...

Production Blog: Starting Filming

Image
Hi blog. We began our shooting today, mostly concerning hard scenes leading up to the crash. There were quite a few scenes to work through. We started at Nico's office, which is, as previously mentioned, within his house. It is a brilliant space with sufficient props for Nico, which suited our film just fine. As we were shooting in his house, everything felt safe and at bay. However, there was a small issue when we began. The lighting in the office wasn't all that much to our liking. A bit too bright and too cool for the feel we wanted; we needed moody. After some thought, we decided to shoot with a phone camera that would give the impression of a dark room; it really did wonders in setting the mood. The next scene was driving. For these characters, we used Nico's and Ben's cars, as they fit the personalities we're trying to portray. Safety was top of mind, and with Nico's parents around, we couldn't ask for a better arrangement. The driving scene went with...

Production Blog: Complications

Image
Hello Blog today was a rough day. I was looking forward to filming but unfortunately things did not go as planned. While we can control are schedules we cannot control the weather. It said it was going to be clear sky’s today but it was very incorrect, It rained the whole time. We considered filming in the rain but it would have been bad. There is a couple reasons for this. For the first reason is that the rain could mess with our cameras and audio. This could potentially break them. Another reason is due to the hazards of filming in the rain. While slip hazards are a major concern another issue was driving. It is already dangerous driving normally so in the rain would have been much worse. For these reasons as a group we agreed it would be best to cancel and reschedule. While this could have been a bigger issue it is okay because we are already doing this film way earlier then its due date. That’s all for today blog so thank you for reading and have a great day.

Production Blog: Sound For Film

Image
Hello blog a lot has happened since then last blog. Today we have do sound. While sound may seem easy it is actually one of the more difficult things to do. We will do a mix of making our own sound and using premade sounds. For diagetic sounds we will make all of them. For non diagetic sound we will use a mixture of audios that are available. This will include sad sound music and music to build suspense. For the car crash we will attempt to simulate our own but we may end up using and audio. There will also be police sounds and the sound of a heartbeat. These will be taken from online. The most difficult thing about sound is to put it onto the audio. The audios can sound unnatural and not fit the scene. They may also not be timed right with the clip. this is more of and issue for outside audios so we will be trying too use less of them and more made ones. We will all work on audio as a group. Overall this is it for today blog thank you for reading.

Production Blog: Locations

Image
Today, the blog would walk you through our shooting locations. The original scheme was to shoot in some different locations. We knew we needed to have a quiet place to film. This meant either a secluded place or a private place. We sat down and started brainstorming about filming spots. Each of us had some suggestions, but none really seemed to work. My dad's office could be the set for the office scene, but it may just be too much traveling for everyone just for a short scene. For the car scenes, we could shoot any off-street main road. So practically anybody's neighborhood would do. Nathaly had some locations we could use for filming, but they aren't really what we had envisioned. For the party scene, we can use Nicolas' backyard because it has plenty of space for hosting events. Given that all of us are on a timeline, this whole planning phase is very crucial. If we do not have enough time, then we may end up doing the whole thing at Nicolas' place. That should ...

Film production: Gathering Materials

Image
Hey blog today were going to talk about material gathering. For this movie we needed a couple things. Many of these materials will be based off our roles and what we already have. For example Benjamin who is playing their drunk driver already has a car we could use. We will also need another vehicle. I will be providing this as well. The two of them will not really collide as it is dangerous and costly. Another material we will need is fake alcohol containers. I will be making these. We also will need safety equipment for in case we get hurt. Adults will also be around during filming. One thing everyone in out group will work on providing is outfits for the characters. I will be providing office wear that i already have. To simulate the accident we may use fake blood but we are unsure. This depends on how graphic we decide on making are film. We also may need bandages and casts to make fake injury’s, Overall these are all the materials we will use and who will provide them. While it is...

Film Production: Logistics and Scheduling

Image
Hello Blog today we’re going to begin the process of producing our film. We finally got through all the research and planning parts. Now we can move onto actually doing the film. While this might be hard me and my group are going to try to make the best film possible. We have currently began scheduling and logistics.  As we complete more preliminary steps deciding a film day will be easier. The first step in this is too figure out which filming materials we need and who can get them. Then we will begin to schedule filming and make sure everyone is okay with it. Another crucial role is the availability of some of the actors we will bring along. We have began working on all off these things and they will take a bit to complete. These are difficult and necessary steps for filming but me and my group have been having a fun time doing it and it is going well. When these are all done we will have a film date set in stone to meet up and begin to film. We decided a film week after we ...
